class=\"tp-unfold-description-inner\"><p>The Science curriculum is reinforced from 1st grade onwards through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) approach. The teaching of Science is also supported through the use of the School\u2019s laboratory facilities, aiming to train students initially in simple research practices such as observation, comparison, classification and questioning. They gradually delve deeper into the use of the computer, initially through educational and entertainment software and then by learning the Microsoft Office package (word processing, multimedia development, etc.), educational programs and applications (web 2.0, wikis). For a better and effective acquisition of knowledge,\u00a0<b>learning interdisciplinary projects<\/b>, web explorations, electronic discussions, using all the above ICT tools. The programme is developed with the aim of progressive language acquisition in an enjoyable and confident manner.<b>\u00a0The course is conducted exclusively in English<\/b>\u00a0so that children become familiar with the language in an early and<b>\u00a0experiential way<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>In the first grade, the first introduction is made through stories, songs, painting, individual and group projects and the use of new technologies (interactive boards), taking the first steps in reading and writing, having already mastered the basics of the spoken language through their attendance at our Kindergarten. Gradually, teaching is intensified at learning rates through selected book series from recognized publishers, the English Department\u2019s internal publications and extensive supervisory material, encouraging students to use English in a variety of communicative contexts. From grades 2 to 6, the skills of speaking, writing, listening and reading-comprehension are developed. Having been taught the language at Junior A and Junior B level respectively in grades 2 and 3, in grade 4 students follow a curriculum at A1 level according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). In the next two grades, students progressively follow an A2 level programme and have the opportunity to participate in the Hellenic American University examinations for the STYLE 2 and 3 certificates at the end of the year in grades 5 and 6 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Students\u00a0<b>are introduced to the second foreign language in the third grade<\/b>\u00a0by choosing between French and German. Language learning begins with games, charades, stories and songs and is then enriched with reading and spelling. It is structured with grammar, exercises, selected books and a wide range of supervisory material. Students gradually become familiar with the countries, customs, culture and mentality of their people. Teaching hours are 2 hours per week in grade 3, with 3 in grade 4 and 4 in grades 5 and 6. At the end of the year, students can take the DELF A1 and A2 examinations of the French Institute, of which our school is an official examination centre, in grades 5 and 6, respectively, in French. In this way they develop their aesthetic skills, visual vocabulary, working individually or in groups. The themes are often interdisciplinary and are carried out in collaboration with other subjects. On the basis of the themes, units of art history are approached experientially and issues of the structure and meaning of art are worked on.
