On this page you will be informed about the activities of the Kotronis Schools, related to the Erasmus programmes, which are implemented in all school levels of our School.

Erasmus+ is a European Commission programme in the fields of Education, Training, Youth and Sport.

Erasmus+ aims to improve skills and employability and to modernise education systems, training and youth. It is designed to support educational movement, the development of cooperation between institutions/entities/organisations and the enhancement of education policies in the countries of the European Union.

The Erasmus+ programme is structured around three Key Actions, covering all areas of Education, Training and Youth, which are:

Key Action 1/KA1: Learning movement of individuals

Key Action 2/KA2: Cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practice

Key Action 3/KA3: Support for Policy Reforms.

Kotronis Schools, with an eye on Europe and multiculturalism, place great emphasis on undertaking such projects. Our aim is to educate citizens of the world, capable of responding to the needs of globalisation, having direct contact and experience from other European schools and putting their own knowledge into direct use.

Primary School Programmes

A new Erasmus+ programme has been added to the list of European programmes successfully implemented by schools since 2011.

The new European ERASMUS + KA229 programme is entitled “Partons à la découverte du patrimoine de nos voisins européens” which means “Let’s discover the heritage of our European neighbours”.

Six schools are taking part: two from France, one from Spain (Canary Islands), one from Italy, one from Germany and the Kotronis Schools primary school.

The “Partons à la découverte du patrimoine de nos voisins européens” project is part of a drive to discover and share Europe’s cultural heritage.

Over the two (2) years of the project, the partners will implement a wide range of activities enabling students to discover the cultural and artistic heritage of the partner countries.

Junior High School Programmes

The Junior High School of Kotronis Schools participates in the Erasmus+ KA229 project along with 4 other European schools from France (2 schools), Scotland and Romania. The schools will work together for the school years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 in the project entitled “Des Ecoles Européennes engagées pour le développement durable” – European schools for sustainable development.

The aim of this two-year programme is to raise awareness and motivate students around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as outlined by the United Nations.

Students will have the opportunity to meet children from other countries, to communicate their views and experiences in French and English, and to work with their teachers on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as defined by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015. The 17 goals and 169 sub-goals for sustainable development are of global nature and universal application, and the timetable for their implementation ends in 2030.

The Kotronis Schools will work on Goal 11 (create inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements), Goal 13 (direct action to combat climate change and its impacts) and Goal 17 (strengthen the means of implementation and reinvigorate the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development).

The programme includes student and teacher travel to partner schools.

Senior High School Programmes

Monsters in danger of extinction

The Senior High School of the Kotronis Schools implements an Erasmus+ KA229 project of two years (2020-2022), entitled “Monsters In Danger of Extinction”. In the framework of this project, our senior high school collaborates with “IES Miguel de Unamuno BHI” located in Bilbao, Spain, as well as with the “Spanish Society of Classical Studies”, the “Association for the Promotion of the Greek Language Periplo” and the “National Museum of Reproductions” of Bilbao, which participate in the project as external partners. In this Erasmus programme, students study mythical beings from the pantheon of ancient Greek and Roman mythology, the way they have been reflected in art and ancient Greek and Latin literature, and their repercussions in contemporary Western culture.

The programme includes close cooperation between teachers and students with the mentioned parties, as well as travel and exchanges in both countries.
